Late 1500 Spitfire restoration

Model: Filed in: News, Workshop

We’ve never seen a more rotten 1500, but this late car has strong family connections having been bought new by our customer’s parents so saving it was essential.

When we pulled the car out of the damp and wet storage it had occupied for many years, much of the bodywork fell to the floor as rust. The chassis wasn’t much better. A re-shell was the only economically viable way forward and we’ve sensitively combined the important parts of the original car that lend important patina with donated and replaced panels and parts.

A full running gear, drive train and engine rebuild has been completed and we’ve incorporated some subtle performance upgrades and an overdrive gearbox to add to the future fun.

We’re almost finished nearly 1 year on, and ready for next season in striking vermillion.
